The People is a new documentary series featuring Americans from all walks of life in conversation about what’s actually going on in the nation with an unlikely political insider. Part American travel guide, part pop culture, part journalism and pure politics porn.

In the style of No Reservations, Parts Unknown, Somebody Feed Phil, How To Change Your Mind, Working, Vice News and others, The People is Anthony Bourdain meets politics from a man who has done and seen it all — the good, the bad, the ugly and the unbelievable.

For years, Ray Zaccaro stood at the intersection of the people and the powerful. From blue-collar, working-class roots, Ray had an unusual path to the halls of power; he built a career translating what politicians did for the most important audience of all: The People.

Ray is setting out on a journey to seek answers to the questions on everyone's minds: What happened and how did we get here?

In each episode, Ray will get down to the gritty reality of how American democracy actually works — or doesn’t.
Using his unique access to convene, question and challenge the leaders he served (and some he served against), Ray will press the powerful on how we got here and what they plan to do about it. He will share with them what he learns from The People he meets along the way.

Inspired by Alexis de Tocqueville’s seminal survey, Democracy in America, The People will shift the focus away from the day-to-day dramas in Washington.
Instead, Ray will engage Americans across the nation and political spectrum, meet them where they live, ask what’s really on their minds, what they care about and what motivates them to action — or inaction.

With democracy itself on the line, there has never been a more important time to learn from its stewards — The People — on where they stand and why.
